Applications for FounderFuel Spring 2017 Cohort Now Open

We are delighted to announce that applications are now open for the FounderFuel Spring 2017 cohort. Interested companies should apply here. If you haven’t met us before, we highly recommend seeking a warm intro to augment your application.

Looking back over the past five years, much has changed in the world of startup acceleration. Cheque sizes have gotten larger across the board. YC, TechStars and 500 Startups have all expanded and now regularly take in Canadian startups. Dozens of new entrants have entered the fray, with corporates taking a more active role. Incubators and non-dilutive funding sources have also increased significantly, resulting in far more robust support structures for early stage companies.

At the same time we find it remarkable how much has stayed the same. While our methods have evolved, the structure of our 3 month cohort remains largely the same as when we started. This model remains relevant not just in Montreal but on a global scale, where it plays an essential role within the startup financing chain. Most importantly, as our portfolio companies mature, they have begun to achieve tangible milestones that further validate our approach. In the past year we have seen strong Seed or Series A rounds raised by Sonder, Oohlala, TransitApp, Delve, GradeSlam, and SharetheBus, to name only some of our success stories.

For our 10th FounderFuel cohort, we draw inspiration from continuity. After a short break in the fall, we return more excited than ever about the power of an intensive, mentor-driven program to elicit remarkable performances from a group of ambitious young companies. From our mentor network to our curated programming to our Demo Day, we will continue to build on past successes. At the same time, we will iterate and refine wherever possible to ensure that the program remains valuable and cutting edge.

For the Spring 2017 Cohort, we are especially interested in working with startups that are leveraging the power of AI. Our AI emphasis reflects a larger Real Ventures investment thesis, which sees AI as a deeply transformative set of technologies where Canadian startup ecosystems are already playing a leading role in. Along with our colleagues at Real, FounderFuel is especially bullish on the Montreal AI ecosystem, where platforms such as Element AI are already amplifying the network effects for all actors. While AI will be the focus, we welcome applications from all types of audacious startups.

Joining us for the ride this Spring will be two new members of the FounderFuel team. Isaac Souweine, Entrepreneur in Residence at Real Ventures, will play an active role in the cohort, working alongside GM, Sylvain Carle, to guide teams and drive the program forward. Adelaide Andriot, who worked extensively with our Spring 2016 Cohort, joins as Program Manager. She’ll be supported by Thibaud Marechal, Platform Manager at Real Ventures.

The Spring 2017 Cohort will run from early April to early July, with Demo Day scheduled to coincide with StartupFest. Recruiting starts immediately and acceptance will be given on a rolling basis as we find teams that fit the program. For more information about how it works, including our investment terms, please check out our FAQ. If you think you could be good fit for the program, we look forward to receiving your application.

Hello! When is the final date to apply?

Applications sent sooner are always in a better position, we are currently interviewing and selecting startups.

Since we need to select startups at least a month before the beginning of the cohort (April 18th) we need to close applications by the end of this week (March 10th).
